Performance Workshop
The Performance Workshop
The Performance Workshop is an informal gathering of amateur and semi-professional musicians and artists (21 and over) who seek to improve their art through performance and discussion. We meet at Whitney Music (4601 N. High, Suite 200, 43214) to perform for each other in a supportive environment.
In a typical workshop structure, the first half hour is a meet-and-greet, followed by performances lasting 30–60 minutes (depending on how many people are in attendance), followed by a short discussion. Performances are kept at roughly 5 minutes or less, with some flexibility if a member wants to workshop a longer work.
There is a well-maintained studio grand piano in the space that participants can use.
The workshop has a “No Spectator Rule.” Everybody performs—even if it’s just your best a cappella version of “Happy Birthday,” everybody performs. We also ask for positive feedback only unless a performer specifically asks for a critique.
The studio provides snacks and beverages, including some that are alcoholic. If there is something specific that you want to drink, you are welcome to bring it for yourself. We regret that our second floor space has no elevator.
Presently, the workshop is primarily attended by musicians, but we welcome any individuals 21 and over who rely on live performance for expression (i.e., poets, actors, performance artists, public speakers, etc.).
